How Do VeduBox Storage and Bandwidth Limits Work?

Video and file usage limits in VeduBox may vary depending on the selected storage provider. In this article, we explain how Storage and Bandwidth limits work when using Vedu CDN, Vimeo, or Google Drive, with simple examples.

How Do VeduBox Storage and Bandwidth Limits Work?Summary

Video and file usage limits in VeduBox may vary depending on the selected storage provider. In this article, we explain how Storage and Bandwidth limits work when using Vedu CDN, Vimeo, or Google Drive, with simple examples.

When using videos and files in VeduBox, the applicable limits may vary depending on the storage/video provider you choose.

Usage can be evaluated under two main categories:

  1. Using Vedu CDN
  2. Using External Providers: Vimeo and Google Drive

1. Using Vedubox CDN

Vedu CDN has two main types of usage limits:

  • Storage
  • Bandwidth / Data Transfer

These two concepts represent different types of usage.

1.1. Storage

Storage refers to the total amount of space used by the files and videos stored on Vedu CDN.

A specific storage capacity is defined according to the Vedu CDN package you purchase.

Example

Suppose your package includes 1 TB of Storage.

For a simple estimate:

  • 1 video = 1 GB
  • 100 videos = 100 GB
  • 500 videos = 500 GB
  • 1,000 videos = approximately 1 TB

Therefore, if each video is approximately 1 GB, you can store around 1,000 videos within 1 TB of storage.

This calculation is provided as an approximate example to make storage usage easier to understand. Actual storage consumption is calculated according to the real size of the files and videos uploaded to the system.

What does Storage mean?

The simplest way to think about Storage is:

“How much content am I storing?”

For example, if your organization has a total of 600 GB of videos and files stored on Vedu CDN, your Storage usage is approximately 600 GB.

1.2. Bandwidth

Bandwidth refers to the amount of data transferred when stored videos or files are delivered to users.

The key difference between Storage and Bandwidth is:

Storage measures how much space your content occupies, while Bandwidth measures the data traffic generated when users access or watch that content.

Simple Example

Suppose you have a video that is 1 GB in size.

For a simple estimate, if one user watches the entire video, approximately 1 GB of data transfer may occur.

If the same video is watched:

  • 1 time → approximately 1 GB
  • 100 times → approximately 100 GB
  • 500 times → approximately 500 GB
  • 1,000 times → approximately 1 TB of Bandwidth

Therefore, a single video may use only 1 GB of Storage, while repeated viewing by hundreds or thousands of users can generate significantly higher Bandwidth usage.

Storage vs. Bandwidth

Term What does it mean? Simple Example
Storage Total size of stored files and videos 1 GB video = 1 GB Storage
Bandwidth Data traffic generated when content is delivered to users 1 GB video × 1,000 full views ≈ 1 TB Bandwidth

Why is Bandwidth usage an estimate?

The actual amount of data transferred during video playback may not always be exactly equal to the original video file size.

Actual Bandwidth usage can vary depending on factors such as:

  • Whether the user watches the entire video or only part of it
  • Playback quality
  • Video resolution
  • Video compression
  • Adaptive streaming quality

For this reason, the following formula can be used as a simple method for estimating usage:

Video size × Number of views

The actual consumption may vary depending on user behavior and streaming conditions.

Note: Organizations using Vedu CDN can monitor their Storage and Bandwidth usage directly through the VeduBox administration dashboard. This allows administrators to regularly track current usage and remaining capacity. If additional capacity is required, extra Storage and/or Bandwidth can be purchased separately for the Vedu CDN service.

2. When Vedu CDN Is Not Used: Vimeo and Google Drive

Organizations can also use their own Vimeo or Google Drive accounts with VeduBox.

In this case, storage and usage limits are determined by the organization's account, subscription plan, and the policies of the external service provider.

2.1. Storage – Vimeo and Google Drive

If an organization uses its own Vimeo or Google Drive account, the amount of content that can be uploaded depends on the storage or upload limits available under that account.

For example:

  • Videos hosted on Vimeo are subject to the limits of the organization's Vimeo subscription.
  • Files stored on Google Drive are subject to the storage capacity of the organization's Google account.

Therefore, organizations using external providers should regularly monitor the capacity and usage limits of their respective accounts.

2.2. Vimeo Bandwidth Usage

When Vimeo is used as the video hosting provider, video traffic is subject to Vimeo's own bandwidth policies, subscription conditions, and Terms of Service.

Bandwidth consumption may be affected by factors such as:

  • Number of video views
  • Average viewing duration
  • Video quality and resolution
  • Downloads
  • Live streaming usage
  • Overall data transfer

Vimeo currently defines a 2 TB monthly bandwidth threshold for certain plans and usage scenarios.

Exceeding this threshold does not necessarily mean that an account will be automatically suspended. If high bandwidth usage continues, Vimeo may contact the account owner to review the usage and discuss suitable options, such as reducing bandwidth consumption or moving to an appropriate Custom or enterprise-level plan.

Because Vimeo's plans, thresholds, and policies may change over time, organizations with high video traffic should always review Vimeo's latest official Bandwidth Policy before planning their usage.

Summary

When planning video infrastructure, Storage and Bandwidth should be evaluated separately.

Storage:
“How much content am I storing?”

Bandwidth:
“How much data traffic is generated when users access or watch this content?”

For example, a single 1 GB video may consume approximately 1 GB of Storage, but if that same video is fully watched 1,000 times, it may generate approximately 1 TB of data transfer.

When Vedu CDN is used, the Storage and Bandwidth limits included in the selected Vedu CDN package apply.

When external providers such as Vimeo or Google Drive are used, the organization's account limits, subscription plan, and the respective provider's usage policies apply.
